Chöd study weekend – 3-5 February Luxembourg

Deep teachings on Dudjom Lingpa’s Chöd

Lama Jigmé will be teaching on the practice of Chöd. Chöd is a Tibetan word that literally translates into ‘cutting through’. It is practiced as a skillful means to cut through obstacles like our own disruptive emotions, also referred to as inner enemies.

Lama Jigmé teaches from a very short and unbroken, authentic lineage. These teachings encompass the essence of the Mahayana and Sutrayana teachings and can give the practitioner direct insight and experience of the understanding of both the relative and ultimate truth as explained in the Buddha’s Heart Sutra (Prajnaparamita) which states that “Form is emptiness. Emptiness is form. Form is not other than emptiness and emptiness is not other than form”.

Please find below all information.

Precious Human Life

Lama Jigmé will teach about the Buddhist view on Precious Human Life

Based on the book ‘The Words of My Perfect Teacher”, by Patrul Rinpoche, Lama Jigmé Namgyal will teach on the Buddhist view on Precious Human Life.

The greatest benefit of having a human body is that it brings us the opportunity to attain enlightenment. Without being aware of this preciousness that we have, we might just take it for granted and miss out on the opportunity this brings to end the cycle of endless suffering.

Lama Jigmé will explain the three fundamental types of suffering that we face in this human realm, as well as the other types of suffering that we as humans have to deal with on a daily basis. Especially in this time of corona, we are facing many changes and so we need to learn how to cope with encountering what we do not want and how to handle not getting what we want.

Even though explained from a Buddhist point of view, this subject is relevant and applicable to all, no matter what background or religion you might have.

Chöd Summer study week – 10-19 July – in Rotterdam or online

The Tibetan Buddhist center Phuntsok Chö Ling is organizing a Chöd Summer study week in Rotterdam. It is also possible to participate online.

Dudjom Lingpa’s Chöd

Study Week Summer 2020
Friday 10th – Sunday 19th of July

After a period in which traveling was prohibited, we are delighted to welcome Lama Jigmé Namgyal back to our centre in Rotterdam.

During a 10-day Summer study week Lama Jigmé will be teaching about the practice of Chöd. Chöd is Tibetan and literally translates to ‘cutting through’. Chöd is practiced as a skillful means to cut through obstacles like our own disruptive emotions, also referred to as inner enemies.

Chöd contains the entirety of the Mahayana teachings, combining skilful means (bodhicitta) with wisdom (prajnaparamita), as well as tantric visualization and pure perception. Different forms of Chöd are practiced in Dzogchen, the great perfection. Successful practice allows the practitioner to abide in the natural state of rigpa, free from fear.

In the Dudjom Tersar Tröma Nagmo Chöd lineage, which started with the great master and treasure revealer Dudjom Lingpa, Lama Jigmé Namgyal is the fourth teacher. It’s a very short and unbroken lineage, as a result, Lama Jigmé’s teachings are straight from an authentic source.

The study week can be followed by anyone who has previously received Chöd instructions. If this is not the case, but you do have sufficient knowledge on the basic principles of Buddhist views, please contact us for consultation.

Questions or comments? Please contact: events@phuntsokcholing.org

Online and physically present attendees

Due to Corona virus regulations a maximum of 20 people are allowed at our centre. Therefore the study week can also be followed online via Zoom meetings. This option has reduced prices.

People who register to be present at the temple, are asked to also partially follow the study week online. Depending on the number of participants, we will inform you which days we ask you to follow the teachings online and which days you are welcome at the temple. On online days we ask you to not come to the temple as we cannot let you enter.

Exceptions are made for people of our event team that perform crucial tasks and for those who have not attended a Chöd study week before.

Studyweek Netherlands – The Bardos of Life and Death – 21/28 Feb 2020

The Tibetan Buddhist center Phuntsok Chö Ling is organizing a study week from 21 February to 28 February 2010 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

The Bardos of Life and Death
Friday 21 – Friday 28 February 2020

Lama Jigmé Namgyal will explain the Bardos of life and dying during a seven day studyweek. Bardo is a Tibetan word that simply means ‘transition’ or ‘intermediate state’. A gap between the completion of one situation and the onset of another. In the Buddhist approach, life and death are seen as one whole, where death is the beginning of another chapter of life. Death is like a mirror in which the entire meaning of life is reflected. This view is central to the most ancient school of Tibetan Buddhism.

The word bardo is commonly used to denote the intermediate state between death and rebirth. In reality, bardos are occurring continuously throughout both life and death. They are seen as unique moments whereby the possibility of liberation or enlightenment is heightened. During this profound studyweek Lama Jigmé will dive into being more aware and accepting of impermanence. This can help in everyday life to deal with loss and setbacks easier and eventually lead to less (or no) fear during the transition to the bardo of death.

For more details about the study week, including prices for attending the weekend, mid-week or the entire study week and the registration procedure please visit the event page on Phuntsok Chö Ling’s website or contact Phuntsok Chö Ling directly by sending an email to events@phuntsokcholing.org

* It’s good to realise that what we call a retreat here in the West, strictly speaking and traditionally, is not a real retreat, since we sleep at home or in a hostel or hotel and follow the teachings during the day. For that reason we call the retreats held in our temple ‘city retreats’.

“Impermanence is my best friend, everything is temporary. Everything is like the weather, good and bad, it comes and goes.”

The Practice of Chöd – by Lama Jigme Namgyal (in the Netherlands)

Dear friends,

The Tibetan Buddhist center Phuntsok Chö Ling is organizing a Chöd retreat from 2 to 11 August in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Chöd is a traditional Buddhist practice and taught by our Tibetan teacher Lama Jigmé Namgyal. It literally means ‘to cut through’, and is a powerful method for cutting through dualistic grasping of the mind—the origin of suffering.

Chöd is a practice for letting go of the ego, and clearing the obstacles to discover the true nature of the mind. It is an effective practice that can be learned by anyone.

Lama Jigmé explains more about the practice in the video here.

This ten-day city retreat is a unique opportunity for those interested in becoming acquainted with a practice that is not taught very often in The Netherlands.

For more information, or to register, click on one of the links below, or write to events@phuntsokcholing.org.

Following is some brief information on the ten-day retreat:

Introduction to Phowa Luxemburg – 22/23 June 2019

The Centre Culturel Tibétain is happy to announce that it is organizing a special weekend from Saturday 22 June to Sunday 23 June 2019 in Luxembourg during which Lama Jigmé will teach the basics of Phowa.

Phowa (Tibetan: འཕོ་བ) or the transference of consciousness, is a powerful method which enables you, if you practice it well during your life, to transfer your consciousness to a pure field at the time of death. There are many levels of transference. By becoming familiar with this method during your lifetime, the moment of death is no longer something to fear, but rather becomes a moment of spiritual triumph and liberation. As you might know, Lama Jigmé holds some very special instructions from his Phowa master, Akyong Siddhi Tulku, who was an extraordinarily accomplished master of Phowa. It is Lama Jigmé’s deepest wish to share these teachings with those who wish to receive them, and to benefit beings at the most important and most vulnerable moment of their lives, the moment of dying.

Knowledge of Buddhism or experience with meditation is not necessary, the method is suitable for everyone.

In December 2019, Lama Jigmé and the CCT will organize a 5-day Phowa retreat in Luxembourg. If you want to participate, it is advisable to follow this introduction first, unless you have previously received Phowa instruction from Lama Jigmé.

Please be aware that this programme may not be suitable for people with certain mental health conditions. If you have a history of mental health problems, please contact the Phowa programme staff to discuss the possibility of attending.
