InterFaith Marathon – Run for a United WorldInterFaith Marathon – Run for a United World

InterFaith run for a United World takes place every year as part of ING Night Marathon Luxembourg. It is an inter-religious run in which all ordained ministers and representatives of world religions are invited to participate.

InterFaith organizers about the event:

The aim of this special marathon is to create an international network of running representatives of religions in order to show the world public that religion is not only in the taking place in temples, churches and mosks but to show that various religions have a common goal – world peace. It is also an excellent occasion for bringing together exceptional people with great visions for a better world in peace. In 2010, about 50 representatives of the religions took part in this special project. The oldest participant was the famous 102 year-old runner Fauja Singh. He now holds the Guiness World record in being the oldest marathon runner on the planet!

Everyone found the experience very horizon expanding and enriching. General consensus existed in the statement that the common characteristics of the respective religions outbalance the differences by far. We were encouraged by all the participants and the race director of the ING-Europe-Marathon to continue our efforts because it has such wonderful effects.
Our idea finds a very positive echo everywhere and we had many reports in several media on this event.
The supporting “Rat Christlicher Kirchen in Luxemburg” offers to the religious representatives coming from various countries free food and lodging and, as well as a guided city tour around Luxembourg. In addition to that, the runners will receive a standard running T-shirt with our logo.

In order to cope with all degrees of fitness, it is possible to participate in the full marathon, in the half marathon or a partial distance with the relay marathon (between 7.6 and 12.2 km). As we did it in the past, the dignitaries will also collect donations in her municipality for an inter-religious purpose: http://www.weltethos.org/
